In the early 1990s when Chukar Cherries was a fledging enterprise on our family farm, I was looking for a skilled fruit illustrator to bring the various cherry varietals, apples, and berries to life. It had to be a sensitive soul, able to imbue the illustrations with life. Good fortune came my way and I was introduced to Jim Hays, a gifted Northwest illustrator specializing in fruits, woodland creatures, and community. After working on a few projects together, a long friendship developed. Jim became Chukar’s illustrator and created a library of signature illustrations that are the heart of the Chukar brand, from the engaging Chukar bird profile in our logo to the cherry, berry, and nut varieties on our packaging.
