Cherries Jubilee

Cherries Jubilee

If you’re looking for a simple dessert that’s sure to impress, consider cherries jubilee. It’s an old-school treat that takes very little effort to be incredibly elegant.

With the right ingredients — and there aren’t many to list — you can prepare cherries jubilee on your stovetop in less than fifteen minutes!

To Start...

You need to clean and pit a pound of fresh and ripe sweet cherries first. Then put them in a skillet that’s flameproof and large enough to hold the drupes in a single layer. Next, you add a ⅓ cup of sugar and the juice of half a lemon juice, stirring to combine the ingredients. After that, you cover the pan and heat until the sugar dissolves.

Next...

After about five minutes, uncover the pan and raise the heat, cooking until the cherries are reduced into a syrup. At that point, you need to add ⅓ cup of cherry brandy or rum.

Heat It Up!

Flambee is scary to some, and it’s not something you necessarily have to do. But it’s a very simple cooking process that caramelizes the sugar in your cherries jubilee and gives it a much deeper and complex flavor. Once you realize how easy it is, you may be tempted to try it in other recipes!

All you need to do is light the alcohol and swirl the skillet until the flames retreat. This will only take around forty-five seconds at most.

Once your sauce is ready, you can remove it from heat and serve it hot over scooped vanilla ice cream. This will create a syrupy, gooey, hot-cold dessert with a brilliant cherry taste.

The recipe above is suitable for four servings, so you can reduce or add as needed. Anything you don’t use should be refrigerated for the next time you need a sweet treat!
